WAYNESBORO, Pa. — Like many Japanese restaurants, Sapporo in Waynesboro focuses on beauty. Located on the square, it is small but sleek and elegant.
My friend, Pap Ricka, and I headed to Pennsylvania recently and, as we had heard good things about the restaurant, decided to check it out.
The front door enters directly into the dining room. We were met and shown to a table and chairs and given menus. Typical of Japanese restaurants, Sapporo’s menu had appetizers, sushi and sashimi entrées, many kinds of rolls, tempura and teriyaki.
There was also a section of Korean specialties. It is always hard for me to decide because the different preparations are each delicious in their own way.

The Panama Canal at 40 E. Washington St. in downtown Hagerstown is a surprise.
I had been in a previous restaurant in that location and was not particularly impressed. That might have influenced my expectations when my friend, Pap Ricka, and I stopped in for dinner recently.

FALLING WATERS, W.Va. — According to the Urban Dictionary, “Paesano” means “countryman, brother or pal in Italian. The equivalent of ‘homie’ to Italians and Italian-Americans.”
Well, I am not Italian, but I do love the food and the warm and generous spirit that is often associated with it. So I looked forward to visiting Paesano’s Pizza in Falling Waters, W.Va.
Paesano’s is in an older brick home on U.S. 11. I have driven past it many times and wondered what it had to offer. I decided it was time to see.

The sign outside Charley’s restaurant says “Chinese and American food, subs, seafood and wings.” Now that is a tall order, so I wasn’t sure what to expect when I stopped in with my friend, Mack Aroni.
Charley’s is in the basement of an older house on the corner of Maryland Avenue and Wilson Boulevard in Hagerstown. (OK, I am going to revert to Washington County lingo and say it’s where the old Corsi’s Pizza used to be.)

The Stadium Grill and Tavern is a family-owned bar and restaurant that was established over 50 years ago. One evening, not long ago, I asked my friends, Pap Ricka and Mack Aroni, to visit the tavern with me.
The Stadium Grill sits by itself on a large lot on Cannon Street in Hagerstown. It features an outside bar area with tables and umbrellas.
On this chilly night, sitting outside was out of the question, but I could imagine it would be fun on a warm summer evening. We went in through the front door and up some steps.
